A great opportunity to 'lunch and learn" kicks off Saturday and goes through Saturday May 9th at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences with fun-filled activityies for the whole family daily on Bicentennial Plaza in front of the Museum. Several varieties of animals will be there ranging from snakes to turtles to tarantulas, as well as crowd favorites like Madagascar Hissing cockroaches, bearded dragons and our blue-tongued skink(see left pic).

Nearly 3,500 individual live animals (including fish and insects), representing 270 species or subspecies live in Museum exhibits. The public is encouraged to learn more about wildlife. Eastern Band Artists have created colorful bears strategically placed  to highlight Tribal artists. The town of Cherokee is highlighting a collection of beautiful bears. Several Eastern Band of Cherokee artists have created a series of large, life-like fiberglass bears and painted them in bright vibrant colors and designs.

Currently there are 15 painted bears completed, located in various spots around downtown Cherokee. Previously, seven of the colorful creatures could be seen in town. One of the bears honors the veterans of the Armed Forces and is located at Cherokee¹s Veteran¹s Memorial. Join the fun at Kids Art Day!  On Saturday, children ages 5 to 12 are invited to stop by the Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC to help create huge outdoor tree sculptures and birdhouses that will be placed throughout the community. The artwork created will be on display at the Transylvania Community Arts Center, the Boys & Girls Club and Cadence Point throughout the summer.

The children participating will have a chance to work on a group project - tree yard sculptures with animals in the tree made from recycled materials and as individual artists they will have a chance to create a birdhouse which will be placed throughout the community.
